State-of-the-art biosafety level 3 (BSL3) facility

State-of-the-art biosafety level 3 (BSL3) facility

Funding given for project project entitled:

BSL3 Biomedicum-SciLifeLab Collaborative Platform

PI(s)/Head responsible for the resource:

Antonio Rothfuchs, Marianna Tampere

Host organisation(s):

Karolinska Institutet

Resource description:

BSL3 Biomedicum is fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and expertise staff to perform a wide range of research with any BSL3 pathogens. Our facility offers unique applications for pathogen aerobiology and high-throughput screening and service-based projects for external users.

BSL3 Biomedicum is open for companies to perform their research with pathogenic viruses. As an example, Biomedrex is developing CRISPR-based antivirals at BSL3 Biomedicum.

For more information on the Pandemic Laboratory Preparedness resources associated with this subproject, see BSL3 Biomedicum-SciLifeLab Collaborative Platform and Swedish biosafety level 3 (BSL3) network.

How this resource can be used for Pandemic Preparedness research:

A lot of pandemic preparedness research requires a dedicated facility to handle pathogens in a safe environment. BSL3 Biomedicum offers both a safe environment for pathogen handling as well as expertise for research projects.

Who and under which conditions is able to access the resource:

Access to the BSL-3 facility is preceded by the fulfillment of entry requirements which encompass understanding the risks associated with the handling of the pathogens used in the facility and understanding how to perform experiments with the same in an orderly and safe manner. As a service the facility provides training to new users and experimental support. Enquiries about access to the facility should be made well in advance so that risk assessments, permits, procedures and training needs can be addressed. To enquire access to the facility, please fill in the project request form and send it to bsl3biomedicum@ki.se.
